ATHENS, Ga. -- Auburn senior cross country runner Coleman Churitch ran a personal-best 24:46.3 in the men's 8k to finish 17th at the SEC Cross Country Championships Friday at the UGA Golf Course.
"It's a great feeling to be up there. It's a really, really tough course with the best competition," Churitch said. "Although our team had a decent day, it was great to be able to have my best day here. I want to say it was my best by like 20 seconds and it was a good day to do it."
The men finished in ninth with 206 points while the women finished 11th with 241 points.
The top six finishers for the men were all seniors. Kevin Wyss (24:50.8) and Wesley Curles (25:10.9) finished 33rd and 44th, respectively. Wesley Pectol (25:36.4) finished 61st, Mitchell Gomez (25:38.3) finished 63rd and Jay Spieler (25:39.3) crossed the line in 65th.
On the women's side, freshman Joyce Kimeli lead the team with a time of 21:19.5 to finish 28th. Fellow freshman Faith Bett (21:37.8) finished 35th and junior Brenda Kigen (21:39.2) finished 37th.
For the efforts, Kimeli and bett earned All-Freshman SEC honors.
