AUBURN vs. LONGWOOD



AUBURN, Ala. -- Entering his third season as the head coach of the Auburn baseball program, Butch Thompson and the Tigers begin the 2018 season with a three-game series against Longwood at Plainsman Park.

Opening Day is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. CT. First pitch for games two and three is slated for 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

All three days of action will be broadcast on the Auburn Sports Network. You can listen on the radio on WTGZ-FM (93.9), online at AuburnTigers.com, or on a mobile device via the TuneIn app. All three contests will also be available on SEC Network+.

QUICK HITTERS

  • Auburn opens the season with 18 of its first 20 games at home. The Tigers play 35 games - including SEC series against Texas A&M, Missouri, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and LSU - at Plainsman Park.
  • The Tigers are 53-16 (.768) on Opening Day since 1949 with seven straight wins. Three of the last four wins on Opening Day have been shutouts.
  • Auburn head coach Butch Thompson begins his third season in charge of the Tigers' program. He is in his 17th season in the SEC and his sixth overall at AU after serving as an assistant from 2006-08.
  • Auburn's 2018 roster is made up of 17 returners from a season ago and 18 newcomers - including 13 freshmen and five junior college transfers.
  • Mize, who has led the team in ERA each of the last two seasons, makes his first Opening Day start Friday night.
  • Seven of the Tigers' nine position players returning from last year's team made 30 or more starts a season ago. Six pitchers also tossed 30.0 or more innings.

  • The Stadium Deck is also available for game viewing. If there is a conflict with a men's basketball game, fans can park on the bottom two levels of the Stadium Deck.
  • Fans are permitted to bring empty plastic bottles in for free water refills.
  • A cell phone charging station is available to fans near the front gate adjacent to the promotions booth.
  • Grass areas around the park and adjacent parking lots are open for tailgating.
