No. 6 men's golf day one leader at Tiger Invitational

OPELIKA, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" No. 6 Auburn men's golf holds a three stroke lead after the opening round of play at the Tiger Invitational Presented by Jason Dufner, carding a 7-under 281 at Grand National on Sunday. Three Tigers carded in the 60s on the par-72, 7,149-yard Lakes Course.

The Tigers hold a three stroke lead over Kennesaw State (284) and an eight stroke lead over the Mississippi State Bulldogs (289).

Sophomore Jovan Rebula and freshman Wells Padgett each carded 4-under 68 on the day and are tied for third just two shots back off day one leader Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero of Kennesaw State (6-under 66).

Rebula tallied five birdies in the round on Nos. 5, 7, 11, 14 and 15 with a lone bogey on the par-4 10th. Padgett, playing as an individual had a near-mirror performance tallying five birdies of his own on Nos. 4, 7, 12, 14 and 18 with a lone bogey on No. 9.

Senior All-American Ben Schlottman is just a shot back off his teammates at 3-under 69. The Advance, N.C., product had four birdies on the day and is sitting in sixth place. Sophomore Ryan Knop, also playing as an individual, is t-7th at 2-under 70 after tallying five birdies of his own on Nos. 2, 4, 5, 7 and 12.

Freshman Brandon Mancheno is in a three-way tie for 13th at 1-under 71 while junior Jacob Solomon and freshman Reagan Harrell are t-22nd at 1-over 73. Junior Trace Crowe is just behind at 2-over 74 in a tie for 31st.

Graysen Huff and Marcus Svensson (76) are knotted up in a tie for 53rd and Andrew Kozan (78) rounds out the Auburn contingent t-72nd. The trio is playing as individuals.

Maryland and Charlotte are tied for fourth at 4-over 292 followed by UNCG (293), Minnesota (296), Southern Mississippi (296), Georgia State (296) and Missouri (297).

Kansas State and James Madison (299) are tied for 11th followed by UNCW, Troy, Chattanooga, South Alabama and Samford to round out the field.

Day two of the Tiger Invitational begins at 7:40 a.m. CT with the Tigers teeing off No. 1 at 9:30 with Kennesaw State and Mississippi State. Live scoring will be available at http://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=team&tid=13910. Admission to the event is free.
