COLLEGE STATION, Texas - No. 12 Auburn softball fell to No. 11 Texas A&M 3-1 Friday night in the inaugural game at Davis Diamond.
Auburn dropped to 38-12 and 11-10 in SEC play while the Aggies improved to 38-12, 11-8.
The game was knotted at no score through 3.2 innings of play when Texas A&M scored three runs on a double and base hit to take a 3-0 lead. Auburn starter Kaylee Carlson (19-5) was lifted in favor of Ashlee Swindle, who quickly retired the final out of the inning and proceeded to toss the final 2.1 innings of shutout ball to keep the Tigers in the game.
Auburn got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning on an Alyssa Rivera RBI double to left-center to make the score 3-1, but that was as close as the Tigers would get.
Trinity Harrington (13-2) picked up the win in the circle for Texas A&M.
The Tigers tallied four hits to the Aggies' five.
Game two of the series is slated for a 1 p.m. CT start tomorrow.
