AUBURN, Ala. - J'Von McCormick, a 6-foot, 170-pound guard from Katy, Texas and Lee College has signed his national letter of intent to Auburn University, head coach Bruce Pearl announced Tuesday.
McCormick, who will have two years of eligibility remaining, averaged 18.5 points, 6.4 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game in 28 contests this past season as a sophomore for the Runnin' Rebels.
"J'Von's commitment comes at a crucial time for our program," head coach Bruce Pearl said. "He becomes our 10th eligible player on scholarship for this upcoming season and I typically play at least nine guys double-digit minutes. J'Von is a quick, athletic guard who is extremely fast end-to-end and is a tough competitor."
McCormick shot 42.8 percent from the floor, including 36.4 percent from behind the arc, as he was Lee College's leading scorer and ranked third in the Region 14 Conference in points per game.
"Auburn felt like a family when I went on my visit," McCormick said. "It is an honor to be given the opportunity to help make history while getting a degree in business. I also appreciate that Coach Pearl recruits and develops below-the-radar guys and helps them maximize their talent."
McCormick scored 20 points in a game 10 times during the last two seasons, including a career-best 33 in a win against Coastal Bend College this previous campaign.
The guard has also flashed the ability to make plays for others as he has amassed five or more dimes in a contest 22 times, including seven of his last eight games for the Runnin' Rebels.
McCormick's 6.4 assists per game during the 2017-18 season was second in the conference and 17th in the nation. He was one of only seven players in the country to average over 17 points and six assists per game this past season at the junior college level.
McCormick averaged 25.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game while shooting 52 percent from the floor as a senior at Mayde Creek High School in Katy, Texas. In 120 games as a prep, he poured in 1,579 points to go along with 469 rebounds, 421 assists and 208 steals.
