AUBURN, Ala. – Junior shortstop Will Holland and junior right-hander Davis Daniel have been named among the college prospects for the 2019 MLB Draft, D1 Baseball announced this week.
Holland is listed as the No. 12 rated college player, while Daniel appears at No. 35 on the list. Auburn is the only school in the Southeastern Conference and one of just four school nationally with two players in the top 35.
Holland played in all 66 games and earning 65 starts at shortstop last season before picking up a list of postseason accolades that included being named Second Team All-SEC, First Team ABCA All-South Region and a Brooks Wallace Award semifinalist.
The Lawrenceville, Georgia, native led the team and ranked tied for seventh in the SEC with 61 runs scored. He also tied for the team lead in hits (78), ranked second in batting average (.313), doubles (18) and RBI (52), and finished tied for second in home runs (12).
Holland appeared in three games and made two starts for the Collegiate National Team this summer before heading to the Cape Cod League to compete for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks, where he hit .341 in 13 contests.
Holland is the second-highest-rated shortstop, third-highest-rated player from the SEC and seventh-highest-rated hitter on the list. He was also tabbed the No. 8 college prospect by Baseball America earlier this summer.
Daniel finished his sophomore season with a 3-4 record and 4.86 ERA. However, he saved his best for last as he allowed just five earned runs (2.49 ERA) and struck out 25 batters in his last six relief appearances and 18.1 innings pitched before drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 11th round of the 2018 MLB Draft.
In a decisive Gainesville Super Regional matchup with No. 1 Florida, Daniel pitched 5.1 scoreless innings of relief and allowed just one hit with six strikeouts. The hard-throwing righty also recorded the final out in the Raleigh Regional to help send Auburn to its first super regional since 1999.
After an impressive summer pitching for the Chatham Anglers in the Cape Cod League, where he posted a 2.29 ERA in four appearances and three starts, the Montgomery, Alabama, native elected to return to Auburn for his junior season.
Daniel is the third-highest-rated pitcher from the SEC, eighth-highest-rated right-hander and thirteenth-highest-rated pitcher overall on the list.
