Auburn, Ala. -- The Auburn track and field team is coming off the 2019 Southeastern Conference Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., where the Tigers had three medalists, one school record broken, four Auburn freshman indoor records broken or tied and 15 personal/collegiate bests. Redshirt freshman Joyce Kimeli captured silver medals in the women's 3000m and 5000m, while fellow freshman Madi Malone broke the school record in the weight throw en route to a second-place finish. 

Below is a recap of the weekend at the SEC Indoor Championships.

NOTES FROM SEC CHAMPIONSHIP

** The women's 37 points and ninth place finish was its best showing at the SEC Indoor Championships since 2012 (sixth place, 49 points).

** One school record was broken and four Auburn freshman records were broken or equaled.

** Redshirt freshman Joyce Kimeli won silver in the women's 3000m and 5000m marking just the third time an Auburn woman medaled in two distance events at the SEC Indoor Championships in the last 25 years (Veronica Eder, 2017: 3000m, bronze; 5000m, silver – Angela Homan, 2006: 3000m, bronze; 5000m, silver)

** Kimeli scored 16 points for the meet, the most by an Auburn woman at the SEC Indoors since Kai Selvon had 18.25 in 2012.

** Kimeli broke a pair of Auburn freshman school record during the meet, breaking her own school mark in the 3000m (set earlier this year) and in the 5000m (16:28.67) passing Angela Homan's time of 16:43.69 set in 2003.

** Freshman Madi Malone claimed silver in the women's weight throw with a school record toss of 22.11m/72-6.5 breaking Jasmine Manigault's mark of 21.56m/70-9 set in 2017.

** Men's freshman Dontavious Hill equaled the school freshman mark in the high jump, finishing eighth with a PR jump of 2.16m/7-1 to tie DJ Smith's 7-1 set in 2011.

** Kimeli and Malone each earned All-SEC second team honors, with Kimeli earning two honors for her two runner-up finishes. Kimeli and Malone were also named to the All-SEC freshman team for being the top freshman finisher in their respective events.

LOOKING AHEAD

** Two Tigers are qualified to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships, March 8-9, at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. Freshmen Anthony Schwartz and Madi Malone will represent the Tigers in the men's 60m and women's weight throw, respectively. Schwartz is eighth nationally in the men's 60m (6.59), while Malone is tied for ninth (22.11m/72-6.5). The top 16 nationally in each event qualify for nationals.
