BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Auburn guards Bryce Brown and Jared Harper were named to the All-SEC second team through voting by the Southeastern Conference coaches, the league office announced Tuesday.
Brown and Harper are the first backcourt in Auburn history to garner all-conference recognition in back-to-back seasons. They are the fifth and sixth Tigers to be named All-SEC under head coach Bruce Pearl.
Brown, who became Auburn's program leader in 3-pointers made, moved up to fifth on the SEC's all-time list with 345 3-pointers at the conclusion of the regular season. He is just four away from matching the Tigers' single-season record of 108 currently held by Lance Weems in 1995-96.
The Stone Mountain, Ga. native is the 11th player in program history to eclipse 1,500 career points and is just nine points away from cracking the top-10 all-time on The Plains.
Brown averaged 15.7 points per game during the regular season, including 15.9 points per tilt in SEC play, to lead the Tigers. Seven of his 18 career 20-point games have come this year, including five in SEC action. Brown's 34 points vs. Dayton were the most scored in a game by an Auburn player since Toney Douglas dropped 38 on Nicholls State Nov. 24, 2004.
The marksman buried a league-high 63 triples and was the top 3-point shooter in conference play at 43.4 percent.
Harper, who was named to the Lute Olson Award Watch List earlier this season, moved into the top 20 on Auburn's all-time scoring list. The junior has 1,285 points through the end of the regular season. He got there by scoring in double figures in nine straight games and 16 of the last 17, all in SEC play.
The Mableton, Ga. native has dished out 183 assists, including 94 in SEC games, just two away from his season total in 2017-18. He elevated himself to eighth on the Tigers' all-time assist list at 463, the second-most by a player before the end of his junior season in Auburn history, trailing only Gerald White, who recorded 500 assists before his senior season from 1983-86.
The Tigers have scored 468 points off assists by Harper. The floor general has made or assisted on 325 of Auburn's 857 made field goals this season (37.9 percent). Harper's 463 career assists lead all active SEC players and are sixth among all DI juniors.
Harper is one of only two players in program history to amass 1,200 points, 450 assists, 350 free throws and 200 rebounds, joining Eddie Johnson (1973-77).
Brown and Harper are the ninth and 10th Tiger guards to earn all-conference laurels since 2000.
Auburn begins postseason play at the SEC Tournament as the No. 5 seed in Nashville, Tenn. this weekend. The Tigers await the winner of No. 12 seed Missouri and No. 13 seed Georgia in the second round
The game, which is set to tip off Thursday, March 14 at 2 p.m. CT, will be broadcast on the Auburn Sports Network and SEC Network.
