BATON ROUGE, La. – Auburn's doubles team of senior Taylor Russo and freshman Selin Ovunc will play for the ITA Southern Regional title after winning their semifinal match Monday morning at the LSU Tennis Complex.
Russo and Ovunc won their fourth straight match in the 32-team field with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Ole Miss' team of Anna Vrbenska and Tereza Janatova.
"We earned windows of opportunity today in all of our matches," Auburn head coach Caroline Lilley said. "At the highest level, those windows are a bit smaller and require awareness as well as fearlessness to capitalize. Our willingness to stick with what is effective, coupled with our ability to make adjustments to condition our opponents with specific patterns, are areas we will look to improve over the coming weeks."
In the other doubles semifinal, Auburn's team of junior Madeline Meredith and senior Georgie Axon fell short to LSU's team of Eden Richardson and Nina Geissler, 6-3, 6-3.
Ovunc and Russo also played in the main draw singles semifinals Monday. Ovunc dropped a hard-fought match to LSU's Paris Corley, 7-5, 7-6 (5), and Russo fell to LSU's 114th-ranked Taylor Bridges, 6-3, 6-0.
This will mark Russo's second appearance in an ITA Regional final. She was the runner-up in singles as a sophomore at the 2017 event hosted by Auburn.
Tuesday's doubles final between Russo/Ovunc of Auburn and Richardson/Geissler of LSU will begin at 9 a.m. CT at the LSU Tennis Complex. Live video and live scoring will be available at LSUsports.net.
