BATON ROUGE, La. – Playing together for the first time, Auburn's doubles team of senior Taylor Russo and freshman Selin Ovunc captured the doubles title Tuesday morning at the ITA Southern Regional Championships.

Russo and Ovunc defeated LSU's team of Eden Richardson and Nina Geissler in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

"Taylor and Selin were absolutely relentless today," Auburn head coach Caroline Lilley said. "Their competitiveness and poise allowed them to play aggressive, traditional doubles throughout. What a great way to finish a process-focused weekend of growth!"

The Auburn duo earn an automatic berth in next month's ITA Fall National Championships, set to run Nov. 6-10 in Newport Beach, Calif.

This marked the third ITA Regional doubles title and seventh overall ITA Regional title for Auburn women's tennis. The team of Pleun Bergmans and Emily Flickinger won back-to-back regional doubles titles in 2013 and 2014.

Russo and Ovunc's doubles title caps off a successful weekend for the Tigers at the regional. In all, Auburn claimed 29 wins with 21 in singles and eight in doubles. The doubles team of Madeline Meredith and Georgie Axon advanced to the semifinals, as did Russo and Ovunc in singles.

Auburn continues its fall season Nov. 1-3 at the Dick Vitale Invitational in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
