AUBURN, Ala. – Fans can get a preview of the SEC Championship this coming week as the Auburn diving teams will welcome six other SEC teams to the James E. Martin Aquatics Center for this year's Auburn Diving Invitational.
The field includes the host Tigers who will dive against Alabama, Florida, LSU, Missouri, South Carolina and Tennessee in a four-day competition beginning Monday.
"It's going to be an exciting and very talented field," Auburn head diving coach Jeff Shaffer said. "It gives our divers an opportunity to finish the fall season with a competition, continue to compete and make the corrections that we've instilled throughout the fall, and give them a great deal of confidence as we head into our championship season.
"So I'm looking for a quality performance from top to bottom."
Auburn is led by senior Alison Maillard on the women's side and sophomore Conner Pruitt on the men's side. Maillard, a two-time SEC Diver of the Week this season, won both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions against Alabama the last time out while Pruitt has enjoyed a strong season of his own, setting personal bests in both events to this point.
"They both had an outstanding fall campaign," Shaffer said. "They continue to improve and lead this team. We have Logan Andrews, a junior, and then three freshmen – so there's a lot of leadership to be divvied out."
Andrews has already earned his NCAA Zone Qualifying Scores in the 1-meter and 3-meter events this season.
On the women's side, freshmen Gretchen Wensuc and Ashlynn Sullivan have both earned NCAA Zone Qualifying Scores in the 3-meter event. Sullivan secured her score in the last meet with 297.15 points to finish second overall against Alabama. Wensuc also finished with an NCAA Zone Qualifying Score on platform at the Wolfpack Invite.
