BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Auburn point guard J'Von McCormick has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

He is the third Tiger to earn recognition from the SEC this season, joining Austin Wiley and Isaac Okoro. Wiley was tabbed as the player of the week on Dec. 2, while Okoro earned freshman of the week honors Nov. 18 and Dec. 9.

McCormick scored a career-high 28 points in Auburn's come-from-behind win at Mississippi State Saturday afternoon. It was the most points scored by a Tiger in a road SEC win since KT Harrell dropped 28 at LSU Feb. 5, 2015.

The New Orleans, La. native came up clutch as 20 of his game-high 28 points came in the second half. With Auburn leading by just two points at 41-39 with 12:28 remaining, McCormick scored 15 points in the final stretch to elevate the Tigers to just their third win in Starkville since 2001.

The floor general is averaging 17.6 points, 4.2 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game over the last five games while shooting 50 percent from the floor, including 41 percent from behind the arc.

Auburn has earned two player of the week nods from the league office for the third consecutive season under head coach Bruce Pearl, something that has only been accomplished once in program history between 1998-2000.

McCormick and the Tigers are 13-0 for just the fourth time in program history and are one of two remaining unbeaten teams in college basketball.

Auburn returns to the hardwood Wednesday, Jan. 8 vs. Vanderbilt. Tip time inside Auburn Arena is set for 8 p.m. CT.
