PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – Auburn junior Kaleigh Telfer followed her career-low 66 on Sunday with another round under par Monday, shooting a 70 (-1) in the second round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.
Telfer was at even par for most of the day and even went 1 over on the back nine, but she birded two of the last three holes to finish in the red and is currently in a tie for first on the player leaderboard with UCLA's Emma Spitz. Both are at 6-under par.
Teammate Brooke Sansom also closed strong Monday with two birdies on the final four holes. The freshman fired a 75 (+4) for the day and with a 1-under 70 in the first round, she is currently tied for 21st overall with six birdies through the first two rounds.
As a team, Auburn dropped to seventh place after shooting a 298 (+14) in Monday's second round at the Palos Verdes Golf Club (Par 71, 6,017 yards).
Junior Mychael O'Berry, who is at 7 over for the tournament, is the only other Tiger in the top individually. Megan Schofill and Kayley Marschke are both tied for 61st overall.
Heading into Tuesday's final round, Duke leads at 4-under par (564), followed by UCLA (572), Texas (574), USC (576), Wake Forest (576), Arizona State (577), Auburn (581), Kent State (583), Stanford (583), Oregon (587), Florida (588), Arizona (594), Washington (595), Pepperdine (596), Ohio State (603) and Vanderbilt (606).
Auburn will be paired with Arizona State, Kent State and Wake Forest on Tuesday with a shotgun start scheduled for 11:30 a.m. CT. Live scoring can be found on Golfstat.com.
