AUBURN, Ala. – For the second straight week, the Auburn women's golf team was recognized by the Southeastern Conference. This time, it was Megan Schofill who was selected as the SEC Freshman of the Week on Wednesday.
Over the weekend, Schofill won her first collegiate tournament with a first-place finish at the Lake Oconee Invitational. The Florida native finished 7-under par after shooting a career-low 68 (-4) in each of the last two rounds. She made nine birdies over the last 36 holes, and her 11 total birdies was tied for most in the field.
"It was a really good feeling to win," Schofill said. "Georgia is one of my favorite states to play golf in. I have a lot of confidence in that state. I just was feeling good the last two rounds, hit the ball really well, and then the final round, I putted really well."
Schofill helped lead Auburn to its first tournament win of the 2019-20 season. The Tigers wrapped up play at 8-under, 26 strokes ahead of the second-place team.
For Schofill, it was her third top-10 finish of the season. In October, she placed second at the Magnolia Invitational where she shot 8-under for the tournament. The freshman, who has shot under par in eight of her 16 rounds this season, also finished tied for 10th at the Mason Rudolph Championship in September.
Last week, Auburn teammate Kaleigh Telfer was named the SEC Women's Golfer of the Week after winning the individual title at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.
Schofill is the first Auburn women's golfer to be named SEC Freshman of the Week since Kayley Marschke in April 2017.
