AUBURN, Ala. – In this season's first batch of weekly awards, the Southeastern Conference recognized Auburn's Elina Sinz as SEC Women's Freshman Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.
Sinz, a freshman from Katy, Texas, placed in a tie for 13th individually this week at the Moon Golf Invitational. At 1-under through three rounds, she was one of 13 golfers to shoot under par for the tournament. She helped propel Auburn to a fifth-place finish overall.
The low round of the week for Sinz came Monday when she shot a 2-under 70 in the second round with three birdies. It was the second-lowest round of her career to this point. She made a total of seven birdies and tied for third among all players with 41 pars.
Sinz has now finished 13th or better in all three college tournaments she's played in since coming to Auburn, including a sixth-place finish last fall at The Ally at Old Waverly in what was her collegiate debut. She has shot par or better in six of her nine rounds this season and is averaging a score of 71.7 per round.
Current teammate Megan Schofill was named SEC Freshman of the Week last February. Prior to that, the last Auburn women's golfer to do so was Kayley Marschke in 2017.
The Tigers will return to the course next month, March 1-3, for the Gamecock Intercollegiate in Columbia, South Carolina.
