JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The Auburn track and field program punched three more tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships Thursday as senior Kylee Carter, junior Ashley Carter and sophomore Madi Malone each qualified for nationals during the second day of the NCAA East Preliminaries on the University of North Florida campus.
Kylee Carter, the 2019 NCAA runner-up in the javelin throw, won the East Prelims with a throw of 56.01m/183-9 on her second of three attempts to claim gold. It will mark her third trip to the outdoor championships during her decorated Auburn career. Ashley Carter will make her first trip to nationals after finishing 11th with a best mark of 50.40m/165-4. The two Carters join Nils Fischer and Cade Antonucci on the men's side, giving Auburn four javelin throwers at NCAAs.
Malone will make her second outdoor national's appearance after finishing ninth in the women's hammer throw. Malone moved up to ninth from 11th on her third and final attempt, with a mark of 64.52m/211-8.
Junior Presley Weems was fourth overall in the first round of the women's 1500m to automatically advance to Saturday's quarterfinal round. Weems will vie for a chance to advance to Eugene on Saturday night at 5:45 p.m. ET.
