CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Auburn completed the first day of the women's tennis season with a pair of singles wins Friday at the Wahoowa Invitational, hosted by the University of Virginia.

"Our opponents exposed a lot of areas for us to improve as we progress through the fall," Auburn associate head coach Megan Falcon said. "One thing we will continue to instill in our players is ownership, owning what you need individually to be prepared. Self-awareness is something we are lacking and will continue to foster as a valuable part of our team culture."

Madeline Meredith and Anastasia Astakhova picked up wins in singles over opponents from Penn State. Meredith downed PSU's Deanna Lasorda, 6-3, 6-1, and Astakhova took down the Nittany Lions' Olivia Ryan, 7-6, 6-7, 1-0 (8).

In a pair of matches against opponents from host Virginia, Georgie Axon dropped a 7-6, 6-0 decision to Elaine Chervinsky, and UVA's Melodie Collard defeated Selin Ovunc, 6-1, 6-4.

The Tigers also played two doubles matches against opponents from the host Cavaliers. Axon and Meredith took the nation's No. 4 team to a tiebreaker before falling 7-6 to Subhash and Munera, and Ovunc and Astakhova dropped a 6-2 decision to UVA's Chervinsky and Collard.

Play for Auburn begins at 9 a.m. CT Saturday. No live scoring or video will be available. Results will be posted on Auburn's social media platforms as they become available, and a full recap will follow the day's play at AuburnTigers.com.
