AUBURN, Ala. – Senior Kiyae' White recorded a double-double, and six players finished in double-figures as the Auburn women's basketball team stormed past Miles College 102-42 Thursday night in exhibition play at Auburn Arena.
Although it was an unofficial game, the Tigers topped the century mark for the first time inside Auburn Arena. The last 100-point game for Auburn came in 2008, a 119-54 win over Sam Houston State inside Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum.
"I thought we started out pretty good," Auburn head coach Johnnie Harris said, "but then I thought we had some lapses. We're just trying to get them to play hard and compete on every possession. We're trying to get our chemistry and find the right people to do what we need to do. But we're coming along. We're a work in progress. I think it will get better."
White's 12-point, 16-rebound night helped pace the Tigers, who saw 11 of 12 available players find the scoresheet. Sophomore Aicha Coulibaly led all scorers with 20 points along with seven rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Honesty Scott-Grayson scored 19, freshman Mar'Shaun Bostic had 12 along with three steals and four assists, and Annie Hughes scored 11 points to go along with a team-high six assists, six rebounds and three steals. Xaria Wiggins added 10 points off the bench.
"There's a lot to prepare and teach from," Harris said. "Defensive positioning, getting back in transition, communicating – this game was really good for that.
"We got a lot of (offense) off of our defense. Mar'Shaun got us going. She got some steals and got us going in transition. She made some really good passes tonight. She's a freshman, so she made some mistakes, but overall, she got us going. She played hard and we played hard behind her."
The Tigers shot 50.7 percent from the field (38-75) and knocked down 6-of-13 3-point attempts (46.2%); Wiggins had two of those. Auburn also made 20-of-29 free throws (69.0%) in a contest that saw plenty of fouls on both sides.
Auburn held Miles to 20.7 percent from the floor and forced the Lady Bears into 23 turnovers, converting those into 35 points. The Tigers controlled the paint, scoring more than half their points (54) on the inside.
Bostic, Wiggins, Paris Mullins, Amoura Graves and Adaora Onwumelu saw their first action in an Auburn uniform. Sophomore walk-on Riley Donahue knocked down a corner 3-pointer in the final minute to push Auburn over the 100-point mark, and the Tigers' other two walk-ons, Onwumelu and Carsen McFadden, had four rebounds apiece. McFadden also scored four points with two steals and an assist. Jala Jordan had two blocks in the game.
Camryn London led Miles with 15 points, and Alana Gibbs added seven off the bench.
