Tigers finish Thunderbird Invite with five more wins

TEMPE, Ariz. – It was a solid finish to a strong weekend for the Auburn women's tennis team as the Tigers picked up five more wins Sunday to close out their stay at the Thunderbird Invitational, hosted by Arizona State.
 
For the weekend, Auburn won 14 of a possible 18 matches, going 10-2 in singles and 4-2 in doubles.
 
"We have embraced tough competition and different conditions each day we've been here," Auburn assistant coach Megan Falcon said. "They were resolute from start to finish and were able to earn and capitalize on opportunities."
 
Auburn finished out the week with four singles matches against opponents from the Pac-12. Selin Ovunc won in straight sets over Southern Cal's Danielle Willson, 7-6 (6), 6-3. Ariana Arseneault downed USC's Grace Piper, 6-3, 6-2, and Georgie Axon defeated the Trojans' Leyden Games, 4-6, 7-6 (8), 6-2. Adeline Flach came up short against Cal's Makenna Thiel, 6-2, 6-3.
 
The Tigers picked up a pair of doubles wins as well. Axon and Flach defeated USC's Lee and Morra, 6-2, and Ovunc and Arseneault downed Marzal and Allen of Ohio State, 6-1.
 
Auburn will wrap up the fall season next weekend as select players will travel to the UNF Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.
