AUBURN, Ala. –The Auburn track & field team will return to competition for the third consecutive weekend as it will compete at the Texas Tech Open and Multis meet this weekend. The men's heptathlon 60m dash will kickstart the action from Texas Tech's Sports Performance Center Friday at 10:30 a.m. CT.
"We've got a really young team this year, but I like where we are," Auburn head coach Ralphy Spry said. "We've improved each week, and we're moving in the right direction as we near championship season."
Leading the Tigers last weekend was veteran high-jumper Dontavious Hill. Hill cleared a personal-best 2.19m/7-2.25 to secure the nation's third-best mark of the season and the fifth event win of his career. The Mobile, Ala., native is the reigning SEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
The Tiger throwers continue to dominate, particularly in the weight throw, with seven of the eight Auburn throwers recording new personal records during last week's Carolina Challenge. Senior All-American Madi Malone and junior Kyle Brown joined Hill in posting top-10 national marks as their marks earned them the eighth and ninth-best performances in the country, respectively.
Auburn's runners continue to improve as senior sprinter Christopher Grant matched his personal best (6.64) in the 60m dash from two seasons ago, while senior distance runner Presley Weems won her second event in as many meets, posting a 4:44.37 in the women's mile for the fifth-fastest time in program history.
In addition to 16 other schools from across the country, the Tigers will battle against Southeastern Conference foe #7/#10 Texas A&M, and nationally ranked #13/NR Florida State, #21/NR Kansas State, NR/#19 Oklahoma, NR/#20 Stephen F. Austin and host #3/#4 Texas Tech in each of the meet's events.
