No. 20 Tigers open SEC action hosting Texas A&M

AUBURN, Ala. – Putting its 13-game win streak on the line, No. 20 Auburn softball (21-1) turns its attention to Southeastern Conference play as the Tigers host Texas A&M (15-5) for a three-game series at Jane B. Moore Field.
 
Auburn opens the series on Friday at 6 p.m. CT on the SEC Network+. Brit Bowen and Auburn softball alumna Amy Reif will have the call.
 
Game two of the series will be nationally broadcasted on the SEC Network at 6 p.m. CT with Kayla Braud and Mike Cousens on the headsets. As part of its Alumni Weekend, Auburn softball will honor its alumni in attendance in a special pregame ceremony. The first 300 fans in attendance on Saturday will also receive a free Auburn softball 25th anniversary visor.
 
Sunday's finale is slated for a 1 p.m. CT first pitch on the SEC Network+. Bowen will be back on the call and joined by Auburn softball All-American Kasey Cooper.

LEADING OFF

  • Opening Southeastern Conference play in the friendly confines of Jane B. Moore Field, Auburn is searching for its third straight series victory against Texas A&M.
  • Standing a 27-for-28 in stolen base attempts in her career, Makayla Packer enters the weekend tied for 12th in program history for career steals.
  • With a 1.36 career earned run average, sophomore Shelby Lowe ranks third among all active, qualifying pitchers in Division I Softball for lowest ERA. Lowe has allowed just seven earned runs in 50.2 innings pitched in 2022.
  • Auburn is the only program in the SEC to have a pitching staff combine for over 200 strikeouts this season as the Tigers lead the league with 220. Maddie Penta leads the SEC with 121 strikeouts and is the only SEC pitcher to surpass 100 strikeouts this season.
  • The tale of the tape doesn't lie as Auburn's offensive output is staggering compared to a season ago. Auburn has totaled 31 home runs through its first 22 games of 2022, matching its 2021 season home run output of 22. The mark is the most home runs for 22 games at Auburn since the 2019 season.
  • Behind six shutouts, Auburn has outscored opponents over its 13-game win streak by a mark of 92 to 10.
  • Junior Carlee McCondichie made program history against Toledo on March 5 as she became the first Tiger in school history to slug an inside-the-park home run and an out-of-the-park home run in the same contest.
  • A total of nine different Tigers have slugged home runs during the first month of the 2022 season with eight student-athletes recording two or more. Bri Ellis leads the team with six homers.
  • Earning six wins over a five-day span, Maddie Penta earned national honors as she was recognized as the Wilson/NFCA Division I Pitcher of the Week. She is the first Tiger to win the honor.
  • Entering the weekend with a 21-1 record, Auburn is off to its best start since the 2016 season.

The Tigers return to nonconference action on Wednesday with a midweek tilt at Kennesaw State. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. CT.
