AUBURN, Ala. – Returning to Hutsell-Rosen track for the first time in nearly a year, Auburn track & field opens its outdoor season at home with the Tiger Track Classic Friday and Saturday.
"We're really excited to be able to kick off outdoor season at home," Tigers head coach Ralph Spry said. "Our strengths really shine during outdoor. Our team is ready to get after it and show just how hard we've been working and how gritty we can be."
Auburn enters the new season on the heels of a successful indoor campaign. Three Tigers, Dontavious Hill, Madi Malone and Alex Spyridonidis, all earned First Team All-America honors a week ago at NCAA Indoor Championships. Malone and Hill will make the jump straight into outdoor, competing in the women's hammer throw and men's high jump.
The Tiger Track Classic will also mark the return of events like javelin, hammer throw, discus, 400m hurdles and the 3000m steeplechase. Several Tigers will make their season debuts in said events this weekend, including senior All-American Ashley Carter who is set to throw javelin Friday at 4 p.m. CT.
The men's hammer throw will signal the start of Friday's field action at 2 p.m. CT while the women's 1500m will commence running events at 7 p.m. CT.
Facing off against the Tigers this weekend will be competitors from 15 other schools, including SEC foes Ole Miss and South Carolina.
