AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn track & field looks to make a statement at the conference level and bring home some hardware at SEC Outdoor Championships Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex in Oxford, Mississippi.
The Tigers will send 24 men and 22 women to compete in this year's championships, including 16 whom will be competing at the event for the first time in their careers.
A total of 12 Tigers have previously scored at SEC Outdoors.
"This year has been so surreal and exciting," Tigers head coach Ralph Spry said. "It's pretty cool to be able to finish where it all started for me. I couldn't ask for anything more."
Spry is a 1984 graduate of Ole Miss and was the program's first national champion after capturing the long jump title in 1983.
"I really like our chances this year," Spry said. "We've got a good mix of veterans who have been here before and younger kids who are starting to heat up at just the right time."
At last year's SEC championships, the Tigers sent nine athletes to the podium, collecting five bronze and four silver medals.
Leading the returners is a group of five seniors who account for the majority of those medals a year ago. Ashley Carter, Joyce Kimeli, Madi Malone, Alex Spyridonidis and Presley Weems all look to defend and improve upon their performances last season.
Additionally, making to trip to Oxford are junior Kyle Brown, senior Tylar Colbert, senior James Courson, sophomore David Edmondson, junior Maura Huwalt, senior Keira McCarrell and sophomore Zatoria Thompson, all of whom nabbed points on behalf of the Tigers at 2021 SEC Outdoors.
The senior trio of Erik Ebel, Dontavious Hill and Asia Jinks will also look to bolster the Tigers' efforts this weekend as each is ranked amongst the top eight in the conference for their respective events.
Fans can catch the Tigers in action at SECs via the SEC Network+. Thursday's events will be streamed from noon to 6:15 p.m. CT and then broadcast from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. CT.
On Saturday, the stream will begin at 1:45 p.m. and conclude at 5:45 p.m. CT. The broadcast will take over from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. CT.
For Saturday's action, the SEC Network+ will offer a stream from 12:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. CT and the SEC Network will broadcast the evening's finals from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. CT.
