PHILADELPHIA, Pa.— Auburn track and field closed the 126th Penn Relays Carnival with a strong finish, winning silver in the men's 4x100 Championship of America, capturing fourth in the women's 4x400 Championship of American and taking three of the top five spots in the women's javelin throw.
At the Torrin Lawrence Invitational in Athens, Georgia, All-American Dontavious Hill cleared a new personal-best height in the high jump, with a mark of 2.23m/7-3.75 to take second in the event.
The Tigers' 4x100 of Jason Reese, Dante Brown, Brandon Smiley and Christopher Grant ran a season-best 39.53 to finish five one-hundredths behind Houston. Trimming four seconds of their preliminary round time, the women's 4x400 of Asia Jinks, Tylar Colbert, Jennifer Dietrich and Aalliyah Francis clocked a time of 3:35.26.
In the field events, seniors Ashley Carter (52.86m/173-5) and Keira McCarrell (51.08m/167-7) grabbed silver and bronze in the javelin throw, while teammate Shaniya Holley established a new PR of 47.84m/156-11 to finish fifth.
Sophomore and Pennsylvania native Maura Huwalt was fifth (51.34m/168-5) and seventh (16.37m/53-8.5) in the women's discus and shot put, respectively. Her toss of 16.37 meters in the shot put was a new personal best.
Other notable performances in Athens during the last day of competition was Lexie Leinneweber's bronze in the women's pole vault (3.82m/12-6.25) and new PRs by Alex Spyridonidis (14.21m/46-7.5) and David Edmondson (12.06m/39-6.75) in the men's shot put.
The Tigers will have the week off from competition before heading to Oxford, Mississippi for the 2022 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships, May 12-14, at the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex.
