Tigers add German swimmer to complete 2022 signing class

AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn finalized its 2022 class Tuesday with the signing of Danny Schmidt, a German swimmer who specializes in the individual medley and freestyle events. 

Schmidt, who will join the Tigers for the upcoming 2022-23 season, recently posted long-course personal bests in the 200 freestyle (1:49.43) and 200 IM (2:01.31) at the German Olympic Trials where he made podium with a second-place finish in the 200 IM. He also won the 2021 German National Title in the 400 IM with a personal-best time of 4:18.82. 

Schmidt's short-course personal bests in all three events came in 2019 at the International Berlin Short Course Championships where he went 1:47.96 in the 200 free, 1:59.81 in the 200 IM and 4:15.92 in the 400 IM. 

The addition of Schmidt makes it 21 signees for Auburn in the 2022 class, including five international signees. Schmidt is the second German swimmer to sign with the Tigers in this class, joining Rosalie Kleyboldt from the women's side.
