AUBURN, Ala. – There wasn't more the Auburn Volleyball faithful could have asked for in the Tiger's home opener.

Serving up a cold plate of revenge on Alabama State (0-4, 0-0), the Orange and Blue swept the Lady Hornets out of Neville Arena, 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-18).

From the opening serve, it was clear that Auburn's freshmen were ready to shine in front of their home crowd. Once starting libero Sarah Morton stepped to the service line, she refused to let ASU side out as the Tigers opened the match on an 8-2 run.

The dynamic duo of senior Rebekah Rath and freshman Madison Scheer showed early and often what the Auburn offense was capable of. Along with Akasha Anderson, Jackie Barrett's offense was firing on all cylinders.

Rath led the way with four kills in the first frame while Scheer and Anderson were close behind with three apiece.

Scheer started swinging with a vengeance in set number two. The Eureka, Missouri native nearly went perfect, tallying four kills on six attempts.

Meanwhile, Morton along with Barrett were keeping things difficult at the service line. With three aces each on Wednesday, the two managed to keep the Lady Hornets at arm's length. The mark reset a career-best for Morton and tied Barrett's career-high.

After the Tigers closed out the second set to take a commanding lead, Alabama State wasn't going to return to Montgomery without a fight.

Head coach Brent Crouch called timeout trailing 4-6 and his team responded to the challenge. A 9-1 run midway through the set with Morton and fellow freshman Zoe Slaughter serving aggressively, swung all the momentum back in Auburn's favor.

Scheer and Rath combined for 11 kills in the final frame to cement the home-opening victory. Rath secured 14 kills hitting .480 while Scheer piled up a career-best 12 kills on an even .500 hitting.
