FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas—Sophomore transfer Favour Ashe ran the second fastest 60m time in Auburn school history en route to winning gold at the Southeastern Conference indoor title Saturday. Ashe became the eighth man ever at Auburn to win the fastest event at the conference meet and first since Dante Brown in 2021.
Ashe ran a personal-best 6.52 to outdistance Kentucky freshman Jordan Anthony over the last 30 meters who finished in 6.57. The 6.52 was the fastest ran at the meet since world champion Christian Coleman of Tennessee ran the same time in 2017.
Auburn freshman Azeem Fahmi, racing in just his third meet for the Tigers, finished fourth in the men's 60m crossing in 6.70. It was the best finish by an AU freshman in the event at SEC Indoors since 2009 when Marcus Rowland was third.
Junior Ryan Kinnane, the fourth place finisher at 5000m on Friday, took sixth in the men's 3000m in 8:01.92. Kinnane is the first Auburn runner to score in both events in the meet since Ty McCormack in 2015.
Senior All-American Dontavious Hill finished sixth in the men's high jump, clearing 2.10m/6-10.75, while teammate TJ Funches became a first-time SEC scorer tying for eighth place (2.05m/6-8.75).
Competing in his first conference meet, freshman Michael May was fifth in the heptathlon with 5,672 points, recording the best finish ever by an AU rookie in the event which has been contested since 2004.
On the women's side, senior Essence Thomas leaped a personal-best 12.98m/42-7 in the triple jump to finish sixth. Sophomore Amy Warren, who was seventh a year ago as a freshman at Mississippi State, equaled that same performance on Saturday with a leap of 12.96m/42-6.25.
Junior Maura Huwalt scored in her second event in as many days, claiming eighth in the shot put with a best mark of 16.74m/54-11.25. Huwalt finished fifth in the weight throw during day one of the competition and has scored in four consecutive SEC indoor events dating back to 2022.
Freshman Gene Coetzee recorded a personal-best time of 4:46.26 in the mile to take eighth place becoming the first Tiger newcomer to score in the event since 2002 when Spring Dawson was fourth.
The Auburn men finished nineth in the team standings with 43.25 points, while the women were 12th with 17.33 points. Arkansas swept the men's and women's team titles.
