Huwalt, Strachan and Moison Qualify for U23 NACAC Championships

AUBURN, Ala- Auburn senior Maura Huwalt, freshman Keyshawn Strachan and junior Kyle Moison each qualified last week for the 2023 U23 North American, Central American, and Caribbean Championships (NACAC) Championships in men's and women's javelin and men's hammer throw. The 2023 NACAC Championships will be held July 21-23 in San Jose Costa, Rica.
 
Strachan threw 68.74m/225-6 to become the 2023 Bahamas National Champion to secure his qualifying spot. The Nassau, Bahamas native went undefeated in his rookie season, winning the 2023 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, UF Tom Jones Memorial and now the 2023 Bahamas National Championship. In his collegiate debut, Strachan threw 84.27m/276-6 to break the Auburn school record, freshman record and record the third farthest throw in NCAA history.
 
At the 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon, Huwalt threw 49.10 m/161-1 on her third attempt to finish seventh and punch her ticket to Costa Rica. The South Park, Pennsylvania native is coming off a strong outdoor season where she qualified for NCAA Outdoors in the javelin throw.
 
Junior Kyle Moison was also selected to represent Team USA at the 2023 U23 NACAC Championships in the men's hammer throw. Moison threw a personal-best 67.38m/221-1 at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships to finish 17th and achieve the qualifying standard to compete in Costa Rica.
 
Fellow seniors Madi Malone and Dontavious Hill capped off their Auburn careers in Eugene at the USATF Championships. The 2023 NCAA Outdoor runner-up in the women's hammer throw, Malone finished 13th with her throw of 66.96m/218-9, while in the men's high jump, Hill cleared his second highest bar of the season at 2.21m/7-3 to finish 6th overall.
