BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –  Junior forward Johni Broome has been tabbed to the preseason All-Southeastern Conference First Team as selected by a panel of both SEC and national media members.

The Tigers' top returning scorer (14.2 ppg), rebounder (8.4 rpg) and shot blocker (2.4 bpg), he also received votes in Player of the Year voting and was joined on the first team by Alabama's Grant Nelson, Arkansas' Trevon Brazile, Kentucky's Justin Edwards, Mississippi State's Tolu Smith, Tennessee's Santiago Vescovi and Texas A&M's Wade Taylor IV.

Last year, Broome was honored on the All-SEC Second Team and USBWA All-District IV Team leading the Tigers to a NCAA Tournament berth. He was one of nine players in the SEC to rank in the Top 15 in both the scoring and rebounding columns. Broome also ranked 10th nationally in blocks per game.

One of the Top 40 returning players in the country, he was invited to participate in the NBA G League Elite Camp and the NBA Draft Combine this summer.

Auburn, which finished 21-13 overall and 10-8 in SEC play under head coach Bruce Pearl in 2022-23, was predicted to finish sixth behind preseason favorite Tennessee, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Kentucky and Alabama.

Broome and graduate senior forward Jaylin Williams (11.2 ppg and 4.7 rpg) will attend SEC Men's Basketball Media Day on Wednesday in Birmingham.
