GOLF, Ill. – No. 9 Auburn completed the opening 36 holes of play at the Windy City Collegiate Classic on Monday. The Tigers carded an opening round of 290 (+2) before bouncing back with a 6-under 282 in the second round at Glen View Club.
Auburn is in 10th place through two full rounds at 572 (-4) with the end of the second round being suspended due to darkness for five groups.
"Glen View Club is perfectly manicured and the weather this morning was outstanding which set up for low scoring," said Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen. "We missed many opportunities for birdies and missed too many fairways where the thick rough presented a challenge. The team did a much better job of focusing on fairways and greens to produce some lower scores in the second round. The team goal is to get to double digits and move up the leaderboard."
Megan Schofill had back-to-back rounds under par on Monday, recording a 2-under 70 in round one and a 1-under 71 in round two. The Monticello, Florida native's 36-hole score of 141 (-3) places her in a tie for 18th place on the individual leaderboard.
Redshirt sophomore Casey Weidenfeld picked up seven birdies in her first two rounds and is 2-under (142) for the tournament after firing a 71 (-1) in each round. Weidenfeld is tied for 29th individually for the event.
After an opening round 74 (+2), Katie Cranston recorded four birdies in her final nine holes of the day to shoot a 2-under 70 in the second round. Her 36-hole score of 144 (E) puts her in a tie for 45th individually.
Senior Anna Foster shot 75 (+3) and 70 (-2) in her season debut for the Tigers on Monday. The Dublin, Ireland native is in a tie for 51st with a 1-over 145 for the tournament.
The final five groups, which do not include Auburn players, will complete the second round on Tuesday morning. The Tigers will begin the final round at 7:39 a.m. CT paired with players from Oregon and Arizona.
