Will Cannon selected by Cincinnati to conclude MLB Draft

ARLINGTON, Texas – Auburn right-handed pitcher Will Cannon was selected by the Cincinnati Reds with the 359th overall pick in the 12th round of the Major League Baseball Draft Tuesday.

Cannon was the third Auburn player selected in this year’s draft after Chase Allsup and Tanner Bauman were taken in the fourth and ninth rounds, respectively, Monday. The program has now had 22 pitchers and 40 players overall selected in the MLB Draft under head coach Butch Thompson.

In two seasons on The Plains, Cannon made 40 career appearances, including 36 in relief, and earned seven saves. He struck out 70 batters in 72.2 innings pitched. 

After arriving at Auburn as the No. 7 junior college transfer according to Perfect Game prior to the 2023 season, Cannon led the Tigers and ranked tied for fifth in the Southeastern Conference with five saves in his first season. He was named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award watch list in each of his two years with the Tigers.
