BISHOP, Ga. – The comeback bid came up just short for the No. 1 Auburn equestrian team as the Tigers fell to No. 6 Georgia, 11-9, at the UGA Equestrian Center Friday afternoon.

“We are disappointed in the outcome, but I’m incredibly proud of this team and how they battled today,” head coach Jessica Braswell said. “Our backs were against the wall most of the day and we never gave up and competed for every point. I have no doubt we will come back from the break ready to get back to work.”

Georgia (5-2, 3-0) took an early lead after Fences and Horsemanship, going to intermission with a 6-4 advantage.

Auburn (6-1, 2-1) put together a 3-2 mark in Fences, starting with another big score from freshman Kate Hagerty. She bested her opponent, 87-84, to get the first point for Auburn.

Sophomore Avery Glynn followed with another 87-84 win for the Tigers before Georgia took the next point. Fifth year Ellie Ferrigno scored an 88 on her ride to defeat her opponent by seven points, taking the final win in the event for the squad.

Sophomore Sydney Swallom got the lone point for Auburn in Horsemanship, besting Jordan Davis, 75.5-74.

The Flat crew picked up three wins in the second half. Seniors Mary-Grace Segars and Sophee Steckbeck led off with a pair of victories and freshman Ariana Marnell closed out event with an 82-81 win.

The Tigers got two points in Reining, starting with another victory for freshman Michelle Fumagalli, 71-0. Junior Alexia Tordoff picked up a win vs. Jax Bound, 72-71, for the squad.

Auburn takes the next two months off and returns to competition in early February. The Tigers will host Minnesota Crookston and UT Martin, February 7-8, at the Auburn University Equestrian Center.
