AUBURN, Ala. – The No. 1 Auburn equestrian team capped a busy weekend with another victory, topping No. 9 UT Martin Saturday afternoon at the Auburn University Equestrian Center, 11-6.
“We had a great crowd today and I want to thank the Auburn fans for supporting this team,” head coach Jessica Braswell said. “Today was a good win. We had some mistakes we will have to correct before we go into conference play next week. I think the team understands the urgency we need to practice with this week.”
The Tigers (8-1) once again swept the Most Outstanding Performer honors, including a pair of MOP repeats from senior Mary-Grace Segars and junior Caroline Fredenburg. Segars picked up her second-straight MOP in Fences on the weekend, while Fredenburg was honored for her performance in Horsemanship for the second-consecutive day.
“Mary-Grace (Segars) had an outstanding weekend in both events and it was great to have her riding so well,” Braswell said. “Caroline (Fredenburg) continues to prove that we can rely on her consistency and I’m so proud of her performances these two days.”
Fifth year Ellie Ferrigno was honored as MOP for her win on the Flat, while junior Alexia Tordoff picked up MOP in Reining.
Auburn put together a 5-3 lead to start the day following Reining and Flat.
Reining went 3-1-1 and was led off by Tordoff’s 72-71.5 MOP victory. Junior Caroline Buchanan followed with a 70-69.5 edge and freshman Catie Reached bested her opponent, 69.5-69. Fifth year Olivia Bradley tied UTM’s Aubrey Malone, 71-71.
