AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn track & field opens the 2025 outdoor season in Atlanta, Georgia at the Yellow Jacket Invitational March 21-22. The meet will be held at the George C. Griffin Track with men’s hammer throw kickstarting the field events at 10:30 a.m. CT and the women’s 100m hurdles signaling the start of the running events at 11 a.m. CT.

The men and women will face off against competitors from 16 other schools including Georgia, Georgia State, Lipscomb, Missouri, UAB, Vanderbilt and host Georgia Tech.

Led by third-year head coach Leroy Burrell, the Tigers look to build on their positive momentum from the indoor season and set the tone for the rest of the year.

The men finished third overall at the NCAA Indoor Championships, their second consecutive trophy after finishing second at the 2024 Outdoors, and the women tied for 46th, setting the stage for a promising outdoor campaign.

Five Tigers brought home First Team distinctions including seniors Makanakaishe Charamba and Vimbayi Maisvorewa, sophomores Kayinsola Ajayi and Ja’Kobe Tharp and freshman Israel Okon. Second Team All-America honors were given to seniors Maura Huwalt and Dario Matau, junior Azeem Fahmi and sophomore Ana-Liese Torian

The nine who competed at NCAAs will be back for the outdoor season, playing pivotal roles in the Tigers’ continued success.

"We have big plans for the program,” Burrell said. “And we have good things working for us.”

As outdoors begins, Auburn plans to maximize its depth by utilizing athletes whose indoor season wrapped before or at the conference meet to make their mark. Key events for the season include the throws, multis, and relays.

The Orange & Blue ended last year’s outdoor season on a high note, as the Auburn men finished second overall at the outdoor championships, its best finish since 2008 and equaling the program’s best finish in history. Auburn also claimed its first-ever men’s 4x100m relay national title and 14 Tigers earned All-America honors.

With key returners and rising talent, Auburn has their sights set on increasing its number of national qualifiers this outdoor season.

“We have some things that we can do between now and May where I think we can get a few more athletes there,” Burrell said. “With the quality of athletes and staff that we have, I think there’s an opportunity that they can be really competitive and can help add to some of the successes we’ve had indoors.”
