TROY, Ala. – Behind a season high in hits, No. 25 Auburn softball (22-11) took down Troy 12-5 Wednesday night at Troy Softball Complex to complete the season sweep of the Trojans (21-13) and record Auburn’s first true road win of the season.

The win was Auburn’s 15th come-from-behind victory of the season. It marked the seventh time this year that the Tigers have scored 10 or more runs in a game. Auburn’s offense exploded for 17 hits to set a season high. Seven of Auburn’s nine starters recorded a hit in the contest while seven different Tigers turned in multi-hit performances.

“We had opportunities early and didn’t push through,” said co-head coach Chris Malveaux. “We started to get a little anxious and leaving runners on base, but kudos to our players for keeping their heads down and not let those moments hang in their heads. They found a way. Troy’s pitchers started to lose some control. We took advantage with timely hits. We started to loosen up after that.”

Icess Tresvik went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and three RBI. She also got the start in the circle for the Tigers. She tossed two innings and gave up just one run off a pair of hits while picking up a strikeout.

Aubrie Lisenby also set a season high with three hits to her credit. Rose Roach went 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple and three RBI. AnnaLea Adams extended her hit streak to six games as she knocked two, including a double. Georgia Lessmann went 2-for-2 at the plate, recording the first hits of her career.

SJ Geurin (15-5) earned the win in relief for the Tigers. In her five innings of work, she scattered four runs off seven hits and a pair of walks. She matched her season high with six strikeouts.

After a scoreless opening frame, the Trojans pushed across the first run of the game in the bottom of the second. With runners on the corners after a pair of singles, a wild pitch gave Troy a 1-0 lead.

Auburn responded by loading the bases in the top of the third with singles from Abbey Smith and Tresvik ahead of a Nelia Peralta walk. Adams drove in the game-tying RBI after reaching safely on a Troy error. An infield fly and an inning-ending double play turned by Troy limited the damage to the lone run.

The bottom of the third saw Geurin take over in the circle. The Trojans welcomed her into the game by loading the bases with no outs with a single, double and a walk. Geurin answered with back-to-back strikeouts and forced a groundout to Peralta at short to keep the game locked at 1-1.

The tie held until the fifth inning when Auburn was able to break through for its first lead of the game.

Peralta and Adams both got on board with singles before advancing on a ground ball hit to the right side of the field. Peralta scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch before Amelia Lech doubled to straightaway center to pick up an RBI and push the lead to 3-1.

Auburn’s hitters were patient at the plate as four consecutive walks loaded the bases and scored three additional runs for the Tigers. Peralta lined a hot shot to third base. Troy was able to recover to make the out at first, but Peralta earned an RBI as she drove in the sixth run of the frame.

Geurin would retire six straight Trojans to keep the Troy offense quiet until back-to-back singles to lead off the home half of the fifth. Troy followed with a double to plate a run. The Trojans would go on to load the bases twice in the frame and brought home two additional runs off a pair of sacrifice flies to cut the lead to 7-4

Auburn used a two-out rally in the sixth to put another crooked number on the scoreboard. After singles from Lessmann and Lisenby, Roach cleared the bags with a triple to left center. She would score on a bunt single from Smith. Tresvik put the exclamation point on the inning with a two-run home run to cap the five-run frame.

Down to its final out, Troy fought off the run-rule in the sixth. The Trojans led off with a bunt single before Geurin answered with back-to-back outs, but a triple to right field scored a run to keep the game alive.

Geurin retired the Trojans in order in the seventh to pick up her 15th win of the season. With 15 wins and four saves, Geurin has now been directly involved in 19 of Auburn’s 22 victories.
