Jepchirchir qualifies for NCAA Outdoor Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Freshman Brenda Jepchirchir qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday in the women’s 10000m during the second day of the NCAA East Preliminaries in Jacksonville, Florida, on the University of North Florida campus at Hodges Stadium. 

The freshman from Iten, Kenya, claimed the last ticket to Eugene, finishing 12th with a time of 33:13.61. The SEC Outdoor 10000m bronze medalist beat her closest competitor by 39 hundredths of a second to earn her first trip to NCAA Outdoors.  

Auburn also had seven athletes on the track advance from the round of 48 to the round of 24 on Saturday, including Ana-Liese Torian in the 100m hurdles, Camila Gomes in the 1500m, Vimbayi Maisvorewa and Deobrah Oke in the 400m, Zuriel Reed and Ashantae Harvey in the 400m hurdles and Chante Clinkscale in the 200m dash.  

The 2025 SEC Outdoor 100m hurdler silver medalist, Torian, won her heat in the event to earn an automatic qualifier spot for Saturday (12.95).  

Competing in her first NCAA East Preliminaries, sophomore Gomes finished fifth in her heat of the women’s 1500m and qualified for the next round on Saturday (4:15.36).  

Senior Maisvorewa cruised to an automatic qualifying spot in the next round of the 400m. The Indoor First Team All-American ran the fourth fastest time of the day (51.33) and will compete in Saturday’s quarterfinals with hopes of qualifying for back-to-back NCAA Outdoor National Championships. 

Sophomore Oke also delivered a strong 400m race. Racing in the sixth and final heat of the event, she ran 52.22, the third fastest time in her heat, and will join Maisvorewa in Saturday’s race.  

After a three-hour rain delay due to inclement weather, the NCAA East Region Preliminaries picked back up with the women’s 400m hurdles at 6:30 p.m. CT.  

Reed finished second in her heat of the women’s 400m hurdles (56.73) to receive an automatic berth in the quarterfinals of the race. Reed ran a lifetime best and moved up to seventh on the Auburn Top 10 Performers List in the event. Harvey also earned an automatic spot in Saturday’s quarterfinals after she finished her heat in third, crossing the finish line in 58.19.  

Senior Clinkscale finished first in her heat of the 200m (23.10). The Warren, Ohio, native will compete in Saturday’s quarterfinal round with hopes of qualifying for her first NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene.  

Day three of the NCAA East Preliminaries will resume at 8:30 a.m. CT with the women’s pole vault, which was delayed due to inclement weather in the afternoon. Auburn will have junior Alyssa Quinones-Mixon competing in the event. The women’s shot put was also postponed and will begin at 9 a.m. CT with Megan Hague, Camryn Massey and Maura Huwalt.  

The Tigers' men will take to the track at 4 p.m. CT with the men’s 4x100m relay. Auburn will have seven individuals vying to advance to Eugene, including sprinters Makanakaishe Charamba (200m), Dario Matau (200m), Ian Myers (100m & 200m), Israel Okon (100m), Azeem Fahmi (100m), Kayinsola Ajayi (100m) and Ja’Kobe Tharp (110m Hurdles).
