ACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Auburn sophomore Ana-Liese Torian broke the school record in the women’s 100m hurdles and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, and teammate Brenda Jepchirchir broke her own program record in the women’s 5000m to punch their tickets during the final day of competition at the NCAA East Preliminaries in Jacksonville, Florida. The successful four-day meet ended Saturday as four individuals and one relay on the women’s side qualified for the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Torian qualified for nationals after running 12.81 in the women’s 100m hurdles, breaking the previous mark set in 2000 by Vonette Dixon. Torian entered the meet ranked 12th in the country, and she finished second overall, securing a spot in her first NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Freshman Jepchirchir, the 2025 SEC Indoor 5000m silver medalist, broke her own program record by almost seven seconds in the outdoor 5000m to punch another ticket to Eugene (15:33.50). Racing in just her second 5000m of the outdoor season, she broke her record that she set two weeks prior at the outdoor conference championships.
Adrienne Adams, who earned silver in discus throw at the 2025 SEC Outdoor Championships two weeks ago in Lexington, Kentucky, threw 55.09m in the event to punch her ticket to Eugene. The senior from Portmore, Jamaica, finished the event seventh overall and will compete in her second NCAA Outdoor Championships, the first for Auburn.
All-American Vimbayi Maisvorewa automatically punched her ticket to NCAAs in the 400m after she ran the second fastest time in her heat (51.10). Maisvorewa will be returning to Oregon for her second NCAA Outdoor Championships to compete in the event. She currently holds the second-fastest 400m time in the country.
Sophomore Camila Gomes made a valiant effort in the women’s 1500m, crossing the line in 4:12.72. She beat her personal best by one second and was just two-tenths of a second off the school record.
The night ended with a spectacular performance from the 4x400m relay. Maisvorewa, senior Ashantae Harvey and sophomores Zuriel Reed and Deborah Oke ran 3:28.06 and advanced to Eugene to compete at nationals. Last season at the NCAA East Preliminaries, the relay missed nationals by one place, finishing 13th.
The Tigers will be represented in Eugene, Oregon two weeks with a total of 13 individuals and two relays competing at the top collegiate meet in the country.
Qualifiers on the men’s side include Kyle Moison (hammer throw), Kyle Brown (hammer throw), Seth Allen (discus), Ja’Kobe Tharp (110m hurdles), Kayinsola Ajayi (100m), Israel Okon (100m), Dario Matau (200m) and Makanakaishe Charamba (200m), along with the 4x100m relay.
