EUGENE, Oregon—Auburn sophomore Ana-Liese Torian and senior Vimbayi Maisvorewa both ran solid races to advance to Saturday’s finals during the second day of the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at historic Hayward Field Thursday. True freshman Brenda Jepchirchir also had a strong showing, breaking her own school record in the 10,000m.
A sophomore in her first year at Auburn, Torian earned an automatic qualifying spot in the women’s 100m hurdles after running 12.88 to finish second in her heat. Torian’s time was seven one-hundredths behind her school-record 12.81 run two weeks ago at the NCAA first rounds. Torian will run in the finals at 8:42 p.m. CT on Saturday.
“I didn’t have the best start, but I crossed the line with a pretty decent time,” Torian said. “So for the finals, I need to clean some things up and have a better race Saturday.”
Maisvorewa advanced to Saturday’s finals of the 400m dash after running 51.19 to run the fastest non-automatic qualifying time as she was seventh overall and third in the second heat. The three-time All-American became the first Auburn woman to final in the event at NCAA outdoors since Joanna Atkins in 2011. Saturday’s finals will be run at 9:02 p.m. CT.
“I didn’t feel like I executed so well, I was so disappointed because I know what I can do,” Maisvorewa said. “I’m so excited that I made the finals, that I’m determined to run a good race and execute.”
Jepchirchir, a true freshman, broke her school record set two months ago in the 10k, running 32:41.66 to finish 14th overall. Jepchirchir will return to the track on Saturday night in the 5,000m at 9:55 p.m. CT.
The 4x400m relay quartet of Maisvorewa, Ashantae Harvey, Zuriel Reed and Deborah Oke ran 3:30.34, good for fourth in their heat, but came up seven tenths of a second shy of qualifying for finals, while finishing 11th overall.
Competing in her second outdoor national’s meet, junior Megan Hague finished 13th in the shot put after posting a mark of 17.07m/56-0 on her second of three attempts.
Junior Alyssa Quinones-Mixon finished tied for 20th in the pole vault after clearing 4.09m/13-5.
The Auburn men will return to action Friday with five individuals and one relay in action with televised coverage beginning at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
Discus thrower Seth Allen will begin Auburn’s day at 4:15 p.m. CT followed by the 4x100m relay team looking to defend their NCAA title at 7:02 p.m. CT. Sophomore Ja’Kobe Tharp will compete in the 110m hurdles at 7:42 p.m. CT followed by Kayinsola Ajayi and Israel Okon in the 100m dash at 7:52 p.m. CT. Senior Makanakaishe Charmaba will close out Auburn’s action in the 200m finals 8:37 p.m. CT.
