EUGENE, Oregon—Auburn sophomore Ana-Liese Torian and senior Adrienne Adams both earned first team All-America honors with outstanding efforts during the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships at historic Hayward Field. Torian finished fourth in the 100m hurdles, while Adams broke the school record in the discus throw to finish sixth.

The Auburn women finished tied for 34th as a team with eight points.

Competing in her first NCAA outdoor championships, Torian crossed in 12.95, just three hundredths of a second out of second place.

“It was a real good start, probably one of my bests starts of the season,” Torian said. “I think I got too excited and didn’t execute over the last few hurdles like I’m supposed to, but I can’t be too mad. I made it to finals and I’ll be back next year.”

A Flossmoor, Illinois, native, Torian made her presence felt in her first season at Auburn as she broke the school outdoor record earlier this season and her showing was the best in the event at NCAAs since Rosalind Council was national champion in 1986.

“I got to Auburn in January, so this is still fresh to me,” Torian said. “Being able to do a lot of firsts this season, I feel pretty accomplished. I didn’t win here but I know I’ll have opportunities to do better and progress.

A senior, Adams had a career day as she improved her previous personal best by nearly three meters with her school-record toss of 60.55m/198-8 on her third attempt. The Portmore, Jamaica, native broke the Auburn school mark on her second throw with a mark of 58.75m and bettered it by nearly two meters on her third throw.

“The mindset going it was focus and execute,” Adams said. “That’s all I was thinking about and also being fueled by faith because without God I don’t know what this season would have been. I opened my season with 51 meters and to get 60 meters today is an amazing feeling.”

Adams managed another outstanding throw of 58.05m on her fourth of six attempts, ending the meet with four of the five best marks in school history. Her sixth-place finish was the second-best ever by an Auburn woman in the event at NCAAs.

“The first throw went in, it felt easy,” Adams said. “I reset and went in for the second throw and felt it a bit. It was 58 meters and a school record. That was something I really wanted coming in (to the meet). On the third throw I went for it and got 60 meters.”

Senior Vimbayi Maisvorewa earned her fifth All-America honor of her career after finishing ninth in the 400m, crossing in 51.84.

Freshman Brenda Jepchirchir finished a record-breaking rookie campaign finishing 20th in the 5,000m after crossing in 16:01.99. The Kenyan was 14th in the 10k on Thursday and was the first AU woman to run both 5k and 10k at outdoors since Veronica Eder in 2017.

The weekend saw the men earn their third consecutive NCAA trophy with a fourth-place finish. The Tiger men were second last year and third at NCAA indoors in March. A total of 19 All-America honors were earned, including seven first-team recipients. Six school records were also set during the four-day meet.
