BOSTON, Mass. - Auburn junior Nickson Chebii broke the program record in the men’s 5000m at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener Saturday at the Boston Track & Tennis Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
Chebii ran 13:35.20 in the men’s 5000m, improving on the program record he set at the same meet last year (13:38.16). He placed 15th overall, shaving nearly three seconds off his previous mark and finishing ahead of 206 competitors.
The First Team All-SEC honoree had previously broken Chris Fox’s 1980 record of 13:44.73 at this same meet last season.
Opening his first indoor season with Auburn, Joshua Kosgei competed in the men’s mile. The junior ran in heat one and placed 35th overall (4:11.92).
