HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The fifth-ranked Auburn women’s golf team closed strong in the final round on Wednesday at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club. The Tigers fired a 5-under 279 to finish with a 54-hole total of 866 (+14) and in fifth place.
Auburn was led in the final round by junior Anna Davis, who shot a 4-under 67 with seven birdies. Teeing off No. 10, Davis made the turn at 2-under before a double bogey on No. 1. She responded with four birdies over her final eight holes to post her best score of the week.
Freshman Charlotte Cantonis recorded five birdies in her final round and carded a 1-over 72. Both Davis and Cantonis finished the event at 2-over 215 and tied for 15th individually. The finish marks the third straight top-15 result for Cantonis.
Senior Katie Cranston posted a round under par Wednesday, recording a 3-under 68 with four birdies and a bogey. Cranston improved her score by 12 shots from round two and climbed 23 spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for 48th.
Redshirt senior Carys Worby supplied a counting score in the final round, shooting a 1-over 72 and finishing tied for 58th at 12-over 225. Molly Brown Davidson shot 74 (+3) for the third consecutive round to finish at 222 (+9), placing her in a tie for 43rd individually. Her round did not count toward the team score Wednesday.
Up next, Auburn will return to the Palmetto State for the Old Barnwell Derby Match Play at Old Barnwell Golf Club in Aiken, South Carolina. The event features three rounds of match play and will take place March 16–17.
