SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – No. 7 Auburn women’s golf posted the best round of any team in the field Tuesday at the NCAA Simpsonville Regional at the University of Louisville Golf Club in Simpsonville, Kentucky. The Tigers shot a 15-under 273 to move into second place. Junior Anna Davis led the charge, shooting a 7-under 65 to move into a tie for the individual lead.

“Birdies, birdies, birdies, 26 of them,” Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said after the round. “What impressed me the most wasn’t just the number, it was the response after a slow start. Molly (Brown Davidson) stayed patient after being 3-over through six and completely turned her day around. Anna (Davis) looked fearless and seemed to give herself birdie opportunities on every hole. Charlotte (Cantonis) and Carys (Worby) both delivered steady, solid rounds when we needed them.

“Before we left for this tournament, we said our goal was to win. Tomorrow, we have the opportunity to finish what we came here to do.”

After teeing off No. 10, Davis was 1-under through her first seven holes, then birdied four consecutive holes to reach 5-under. She added a birdie on the par-5 fourth hole and two more on Nos. 6 and 7. Her 65 marked her lowest 18-hole score of the season and moved her into a two-way tie for first with Sheridan Clancy of Indiana. Both players are 9-under through 36 holes.

Auburn recorded the lowest round of any team in the field during round two and is 17-under (559) for the tournament, two shots behind leader Houston. Auburn is four strokes ahead of third-place Iowa State and nine shots clear of fifth-place Virginia Tech. The Tigers have recorded the most birdies in the field with 45 through two rounds and rank second in both par-4 scoring (-3) and par-5 scoring (-14).

Auburn sophomore Molly Brown Davidson bounced back from 2-over on her opening nine by carding five birdies on the front nine to shoot a 3-under 69. Davidson is tied for eighth at 5-under for the tournament.

Carys Worby bounced back from a 3-over 75 in round one with a 3-under 69 in round two. Worby recorded four birdies, including one on her final hole, to finish even par through 36 holes. She is in 29th place individually.

Freshman Charlotte Cantonis posted a round under par for the second consecutive day, carding a 2-under 70. Her round was highlighted by a stretch of five birdies in six holes.

The top five teams from each of the six regional sites will advance to the NCAA Championship at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California, to compete for the national title May 22-27. The top individual from each site not on an advancing team will also earn a spot in the NCAA Championship.

Auburn will begin the final round Wednesday at 7 a.m. CT off the first tee. Live streaming video of the NCAA Simpsonville Regional will be available at BabyGrandeGolf.com with a subscription, while live scoring will be available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
