Holder, Gilbert lead No. 2 Tigers on day one of Inverness

The No. 2 Auburn men’s golf team opened up the season Sunday at the Inverness Intercollegiate and finished day one in sixth with a 10-over 294. The 18th edition of the tournament is being played on the par 71, 7,554 yard Inverness Club in Toledo.

TOLEDO, Ohio – The No. 2 Auburn men’s golf team opened up the season Sunday at the Inverness Intercollegiate and finished day one in sixth with a 10-over 294. The 18th edition of the tournament is being played on the par 71, 7,554 yard Inverness Club in Toledo.

Iowa finished the day in first out of 18 teams with a 1-under 283. Host Toledo, No. 7 Tennessee and Ohio State are all tied for second (+7, 291) and Purdue is fifth (+9, 293).

Individually, sophomore Alex Holder and senior Josiah Gilbert are tied for 12th as each shot a 1-over 72 on the day. Holder, competing in his first collegiate round, finished with a pair of birdies on day one. Gilbert had a consistent round, carding 15 pars and one birdie.

Senior Cayden Pope and junior Billy Davis added to the overall scoring as the duo finished tied for 37th with a 4-over 75. Sophomore Logan Reilly finished the day with an 80.

The Tigers return to the course Monday for round two and tee times start at 10:20 a.m. CT. Action will be streamed on ESPN+ beginning at 1 p.m. CT.
