TOLEDO, Ohio – The No. 2 Auburn men’s golf team carded a 5-under 279 on day two of the annual Inverness Intercollegiate to climb the team leaderboard and finish the second round in second Monday afternoon.
Following a 10-over 294 Sunday, the Tigers finished with the lowest round of the day as a team Monday and have a two-day total of 5-over 573 on the par 71, 7,554-yard Inverness Club in Toledo.
Iowa holds a one-shot lead over Auburn in first at 4-over 572 following a second-round total of 289. Texas Tech is third (+6, 574), East Tennessee State is fourth (+10, 578) and Oklahoma is fifth (+11, 579).
Senior Cayden Pope had Auburn’s low round of the day, carding a 3-under 68. The Lexington, Kentucky native totaled three birdies on the front and two on the back on his way to the 68. Sophomore Alex Holder and senior Josiah Gilbert each finished with even rounds of 71 and the pair along with Pope are all tied for seventh through two rounds with a 1-over 143.
Junior Billy Davis had a fairly quiet scorecard, putting together an even 71 on day two. He sits tied for 25th overall with a 4-over 146.
Sophomore Logan Reilly had his best round of the tournament so far, totaling a 2-under 69. That score along with his 80 in the opening round moved him to a tie for 48th overall.
Auburn will look to finish on top of the leaderboard at the end of Tuesday’s final round at the inverness Club. Tee times start at 11:20 a.m. CT and action will be streamed on ESPN+ beginning at 1 p.m. CT.
