TOLEDO, Ohio – The No. 2 Auburn men’s golf team picked up where it left off and captured its first tournament title of the 2026-27 season, winning the 18th annual Inverness Intercollegiate Tuesday. The Tigers put together an 11-over as a team over the three-day tournament held on the par 71, 7,554-yard Inverness Club in Toledo.
“I thought the guys were really resilient,” head coach Nick Clinard said. “What a great test on a great golf course in a tough tournament. It wasn’t a clean tournament for us, but we made a putts down the stretch that really mattered.
“I’m just really proud of this team,” Clinard added. “The standard is the standard for us and we’re going to try and continue winning. We got to get better. There are so many great players and teams in college, but this was a good start for our talented team.”
Auburn won the Inverness Intercollegiate by one stroke, defeating host Toledo (-12) and East Tennessee State (-12). The team win also marked the second time the Tigers have won the annual tournament in Ohio as Auburn captured the Inverness in 2016.
Sophomores Logan Reilly and Alex Holder led the team as the duo each finished tied for sixth individually with a 2-over 215. The pair also finished with a team-best 12 birdies apiece over three days.
Reilly, of Lovettsville, Virginia, saved his best round for the last, tying a career-low with a 66 on Tuesday. After a slow start in the first round Sunday (+9, 80), Reilly rebounded with a 2-under 69 Monday and capped his tournament with a bogie-free 66 Tuesday to soar up the individual leaderboard.
“Hats off to Logan today for a 66,” Clinard said. “What a great round when we needed it.”
Holder, competing in his first collegiate tournament, carded a 72-71-72 over three days for his 215.
Seniors Cayden Pope and Josiah Gilbert each came in a tie for 26th with a 7-over 220. Pope’s tournament was highlighted by a 3-under 68 on Monday, while Gilbert went 72-71-77.
Junior Billy Davis counted all three rounds towards the team score, shooting an even par in the second round and bookending his tournament with a pair of 75s to finish with a 221 (+8).
The Tigers return to action in two weeks, traveling to Texas for the Ben Hogan Collegiate. The two-day, three-round tournament will be held at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Sept. 28-29.
