Bowers, Markovina wrap play at M15 Fayetteville Futures

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Auburn men’s tennis concluded action at the M15 Fayetteville Futures Wednesday at the Billingsley Tennis Center with Tyler Bowers and Duje Markovina representing the Tigers throughout the tournament.

Markovina opened singles main draw action Wednesday with a dominant 6-1 first set against Neo Niedner. Niedner responded to take the next two sets 6-4, 6-3 and earn the three-set victory.

Bowers began the week in the opening round of singles qualifying Monday, falling to Alejandro Melero Kretzer in a tightly contested 6-4, 6-4 match.

The pair teamed up Tuesday in the opening round of the doubles main draw. The Auburn duo battled Loan Lestir and Marko Milosavljevic through three sets, taking the second-set tiebreaker before falling 6-4, 6-7 (3), 10-7.

The Tigers return to the Plains next week to host the ITA Southern Regional Championships at the Yarbrough Tennis Center Oct. 8-12. The event will mark Auburn’s first opportunity this fall to qualify for the NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships in Athens, Georgia, in November. Draws for the tournament will be released next week.
