BATON ROUGE, La. – Auburn women's tennis will have players in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, this week for the ITA Southern Regional Championships at the LSU Tennis Complex. A singles and doubles champion will be crowned, with bids to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships on the line.
Auburn enters on the heels of a strong showing from Ashton Bowers in last season's regional. Bowers punched her ticket to the NCAA Singles Championship by finishing as singles co-champion, winning each of her matches without dropping a set.
The two singles finalists at this year’s ITA Southern Regional Championships will earn bids to the NCAA Singles Championship, while the winning doubles team will advance to the NCAA Doubles Championship. Both national events are scheduled for Nov. 17-22 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia.
In singles, Auburn's Bowers, Ava Esposito, Natalie Outcalt and Kaya Moe will each begin play in the main draw on Friday. Bowers is the top seed, while Esposito is the second seed in the singles draw. The Tigers' doubles pairings include Bowers and Esposito, and Moe and Outcalt, who will both open play Saturday. Bowers and Esposito will enter the doubles draw as the one-seed.
On Friday, the first two rounds of main draw singles, the first-match loser consolation and the opening round of doubles will be played. Saturday features the doubles round of 32 and round of 16, along with the singles round of 16. The singles and doubles quarterfinals and the doubles semifinals will be held Sunday. The event concludes Monday with the singles semifinals and doubles finals. A singles third-place match will also be played on Monday to determine an alternate for the NCAA Singles Championship.
