2025-26
Competed in 12 meets throughout the season... Earned NCAA Qualifying Standards in the 50 free (19.09) and the 100 back (45.22)... Began the year with two third-place finishes at the SMU Invite in the 100 free (43.48) and the 50 free (19.75)... Delivered two victories at The Dual Meet Tournament in the 50 free (19.59) against Minnesota and the 50 free (19.41) against Florida State... Picked up a second-place finish in the 50 free (19.57) against Florida... Returned to the podium with a second-place finish in the 50 free (19.38) against rival Alabama... Scored 29 points at the SEC Championships, finishing 10th in the 100 back (45.34) and 15th in the 50 free (19.39)... Also helped the 200 medley relay to a fifth-place finish (1:22.41), the 200 free relay to a sixth-place finish (1:16.20) and the 400 medley relay to a fourth-place finish (3:02.09)... Competed at the NCAA Championships as a relay alternate, helping the 400 medley relay to a 10th-place finish (3:01.68), the 200 medley relay to a 12th-place finish (1:22.37), the 400 free relay to an 18th-place finish (2:48.64) and the 200 free relay to a 19th-place finish (1:16.16) for All-American Honorable Mention Honors... His 19.09 in the 50 free at the NC State Invite made him the 10th-fastest performer in the event in program history and his 45.22 in the 100 back at the Last Chance Invite made him the fifth-fastest performer in the event in program history... The 1:22.37 in the 200 medley relay at NCAAs was the second-fastest time in school history, the 3:01.68 in the 400 medley relay at NCAAs was the second-fastest time in program history and the 2:48.64 in the 400 free relay at NCAAs was tied for the ninth-fastest time in school history. 

2024-25
Competed in 12 meets throughout the season... Earned NCAA B cuts in the 50 free (19.32) and 100 free (43.01)... Began his season with a win in the 50 free (19.46) at the SMU Classic... Swept the 50 free (19.34) and 100 free (43.01) at North Carolina... Won the 50 free four more times throughout dual meet season, including against rival Alabama (19.56)... Scored three points at the SEC Championships, finishing 22nd in the 50 free (19.59)... Helped the 200 free relay to a fourth-place finish (1:15.76)... Competed at the NCAA Championships as a relay alternate, helping the 200 free relay to a 17th-place finish (1:16.28) and the 200 medley relay to an 11th-place finish (1:23.06) for All-American Honorable Mention Honors... The 1:15.76 in the 200 free relay at SECs was the 10th-fastest time in program history and the 1:23.06 in the 200 medley relay at NCAAs was the seventh-fastest time in school history.

2023-24
Competed in 11 meets throughout the season... Earned NCAA B cuts in the 50 free (19.37), 100 free (42.78), 100 back (47.22) and 100 fly (46.50)... Started the year with a win in the 50 free (19.66) at the SMU Classic... Secured a pair of third-place finishes in a double dual with Missouri and Indiana in the 50 free (19.97) and 100 free (43.95)... Returned to the winner's circle with three more dual meet victories to end the season in the 50 free (19.94) versus Georgia and the 100 free (43.01) and 50 free (19.39) at Alabama... Scored 29 points at the SEC Championships, finishing 12th in the 50 free (19.37), 22nd in the 100 free (42.81) and 16th in the 100 fly (46.59)... Added 212 points as part of the 200 medley relay (1:22.74), finishing third, the 200 free relay (1:15.91), finishing third, the 400 medley relay (3:03.96), finishing third and the 400 free relay (2:49.17), finishing fifth... Competed at the NCAA Championships as a relay alternate, scoring 60 points as part of the 200 free relay (1:15.05), finishing sixth, the 200 medley relay (1:22.57), finishing eighth and the 400 free relay (2:47.75), finishing 11th... Makinen left the NCAA Championships with two All-American and one All-American Honorable Mention honors... The 1:15.05 in the 200 free relay was the third-fastest time in program history, the 2:27.75 in the 400 free relay was the fifth-fastest time in program history, the 1:22.57 in the 200 medley relay was the second-fastest time in program history.

2022-23
Competed in 10 meets throughout the season... Earned NCAA B cuts in the 50 free (19.24), 100 free (42.62) and 100 back (46.57)... Opened his collegiate career with a victory at the USC Invite in the 100 free (43.48) and a second-place effort in the 50 free (19.71)... Returned to the winner's circle at LSU with a 19.82 in the 50 free... Grabbed two more dual victories throughout the season at Georgia Tech in the 100 free (44.63) and in the 50 free versus Alabama (19.73)... Scored 31 points at the SEC Championships, finishing 13th in the 50 free (19.46), 16th in the 100 free (43.16) and 20th in the 100 back (46.67)... Added 210 points as part of the 200 medley relay (1:22.98), finishing third, the 200 free relay (1:15.94), finishing third, the 400 medley relay (3:03.03), finishing third and the 400 free relay (2:50.75), finishing sixth... Qualified for the NCAA Championships, finishing 29th in the 50 free (19.29)... Added 60 points as part of the 200 free relay (1:15.85), finishing 10th, the 200 medley relay (1:22.67), finishing ninth, the 400 medley relay (3:03.76), finishing 12th and the 400 free relay (2:48.23), finishing ninth... Makinen left the NCAA Championships with four All-American Honorable Mention honors... The 3:03.03 in the 400 medley relay was the second-fastest time in program history.
