AUBURN - The No. 36 Auburn men's tennis team improved to 4-2 on the season Friday as the Tigers swept No. 55 South Florida (3-3), 7-0, at Yarbrough Tennis Center.
"We once again had a great start to doubles and that momentum carried over to singles," head coach Eric Shore said. "I was proud of the way we stepped up down the line-up, and we won this one with our depth."
For the sixth time this season Auburn took the doubles point, and the match marks the third time Auburn has won all three doubles match-ups.
The No. 43-ranked duo of Alexey Tsyrenov and Terence Nugent defeated Thomas Estrada and Daniel Daudt on court one, 8-3. Alex Petropoulos and Pawel Dilaj followed suit on court three, taking the win over Jamal Adderley and Diego Toledo, 8-5.
The No. 31-ranked team of Tim Puetz and Lukas Marsoun picked up the third win over Lucas Jovita and Michael Musslein, 8-4, in No. 2 singles.
Nugent followed up his doubles play with a quick win on court four, 6-1, 6-1, over Toledo. On court one, No. 59 Tsyrenov defeated Mahmoud Hamed in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Auburn secured the victory as Petropoulos defeated Estrada, 6-2, 6-4, on court six. Lukas Marsoun also won his match on court three in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Dilaj put Auburn up 6-0 with a win over Michael Musslein, 6-3, 7-5, leaving the match between Auburn's nationally-ranked Puetz and USF's Jovita left to play.
No. 81 Puetz captured the final victory in the longest match he has played this season, defeating No. 67 Jovita, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
Following its two-match homestand, Auburn takes the road Tuesday to face North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C., at 2:30 pm ET.
