LEXINGTON, Ky. - Auburn's Alexey Tsyrenov advanced to the singles quarterfinals Saturday at the 2008 Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional in Lexington, Ky. Tsyrenov is the last Tiger standing as Tim Puetz and Lukas Marsoun fell in the tournament's fourth round.
Auburn went 3-0 to start the day in the third round of singles, starting with Puetz taking a 6-0, 6-2 win over South Florida's Dromain Deridder. Marsoun followed with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over LSU's Neal Skupski while Tsyrenov downed Florida's Jeff Dadamo, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
In the fourth round, Marsoun was the first to fall as he dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Tennessee's Boris Conkic. Tsyrenov cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 win over Georgia's Javier Garrapiz while Puetz battled out a 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 loss to Ole Miss' Jonas Berg in the final match on the courts.
Tsyrenov continues in singles action on Sunday and will take on Kentucky's Bruno Agostinelli in the quarterfinal matchup. The winner will take in the winner of the Eric Quigley (Kentucky)-J.P. Smith (Tennessee) match.
